I love to be lectured to by liberals who have no awareness of the coup because history started on Feb 22

it’s really awful how hard they latched onto the inviolability of (white) national borders after doing invasions for 30 years

Even the libs that are aware of pre-2022 Ukraine history assert that the Maiden coup was actually a “democratic uprising of the people”, and they have handy NATOpedia links to prove it!

the “democratic uprising of the people” people never have an answer for why crimea was annexed by russia with barely a shot fired, with widespread defection of military personnel, and with no subsequent protracted people’s war against the tyranny of the russian state. while I appreciate that crimea isn’t the same as the donbass, the practically bloodless annexation of crimea demonstrated that at least some fraction of ukrainians were approximately as happy to be part of russia instead.

i tried explaining all this to a lib last summer and he said maybe it’s a coincidence that the people that came to power in that coup were the ones hand-picked by the US…

eventually he mumbled something like “shouldnt we support our side in this though?”

ugh. it doesnt help that we tend to have these discussions when we’re both drunk.

He’s not gonna do it and try to pivot to Europe and then Europe won’t be able to bail him out and Russia will do a big campaign when the US pulls out and take more than if Ukraine just surrendered
