There’s this not all that great sci-fi series knows as the “Bolo” series. Some of the books are collections of short stories and others regular novels but all are about the futuristic self aware tanks known as Bolo’s. One of the stories starts out this way, with a pair of decomissioned tanks and their commanders on some parochioal planet just doing some farming and playing virtual war games before some alien invasion happens.
