An ARPG that predates Diablo, when starting a new game you got to choose your party of 3 out of 6 characters. Depending on who you pick as your first character, the end game will branch into one of three different areas and then final boss. The linked song only plays in one of those areas, meaning that only one in three players who finished the game once even got to hear it.
One of the few RPGs of the era that was two player too, I feel like it wasn’t obvious, I didn’t realize at first and it was amazing when me and my siblings discovered that, especially after always taking turns on the classics like Chrono Trigger.
I liked how the characters also had a spread of class variants. Haven’t played it since it was only available in English as a fan translation, but the official English title, Trials of Mana, is kinda cool
Oh yeah there was definitely potential for planned builds in that game, as you could pick classes that have good synergy.
Also I completely forgot that they made a remake recently.
