Theoretically, it was eurasia, I think? But we all know it was based on the UK.
Every hyper-beaurecratic dystopia is based in the UK, with good reason.
The book takes place in Oceania, which is basically the anglosphere(Britain, US, Canada etc.) Eurasia was the standin for the soviets controlling the Soviet union plus western continental Europe. East Asia was the third power that was basically greater china.
Thought so too (damn I read that a long time ago now) but apparently it was Oceania. Which the UK was actually a part of in-universe.
Good old “Airstrip One”.
The UK is not big, but a bit bigger than one airstrip…
The title you’re using seems to be hinting at current political events. If so then I would recommend reading animal farm by George Orwell. It perfectly shows how fighting for a supposed good (equality, happiness, etc) gets snatched away by bad actors. So that eventually a dictatorship is formed and everyone else is left off worse.
The UK
Airstrip one
Which I believe is specifically supposed to be London
I think it’s all of the UK. Ireland is airstrip two. Oceania includes all of the British empire, plus America (all of it, North and South).
Hence the accents.
Hence the farthings.
All, all and each country.
Even if some are not currently, story is about them too, as a warning.
I don’t remember already. They had their unique book-only names. Ostrasia, etc…
The actual three major powers were Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia iirc. Then there were proxy nations all between them.
I thought it was Britania, Oceanea, and Eastaisia? Or Eurasia maybe?
Currently reading the book for the first time.
There’s: Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia.
