Anderton said that in a future world of “meritocracy”, the UK could “regain” former colonies such as Australia, Canada and South Africa.

Dude really needs to stop talking.

      He didn’t

he mentioned India and Ireland too

I’m no historian, but I vaguely recall reading somewhere that British rule in those countries were uh… “somewhat controversial”

This clown has clearly got his entire education of history and civilisation from far-right fan-fiction videos and eschewed the high quality education he was offered for free. Someone with even a passing GCSE level understanding of the world would not make such ridiculous statements.

If the world was actually a meritocracy, his judgement has demonstrated he is severely lacking in any merit whatsoever.

He was going to add more but it was past his bedtime and his mom wouldn’t let him stay out because it was a school night.

Wowzers, what a dipshit. I think it’s much better for the world that Britain was forced to give up all of its colonies.

UK have to fight in WW2 because their colonies is being attack, and also Nazi is drawing close. Is he suggesting British Empire to just go “whoop i don’t really want that place, you can have it” and stay put and let the Nazi roll them over? Is he dumb

Is that so outrageous? Most countries would have been better off if they hadn’t had to fight in WW2. That’s mainly why the US was so well off after WW2, because they entered late and almost nobody attacked them.

if they hadn’t had to fight in WW2

But that’s not what he is saying. You are saying it like if Germany didn’t start WW2, The Farage adviser is saying it like if they had just let Hitler win.

HUGE difference. And if you claim what the adviser is saying is not crazy, what would you think it would look like if Hitler had won?
Fascism throughout Europe, which could spread to UK and USA, like English and American values spread to Europe because they won.

I know fascism is spreading in USA now anyway, but imagine how bad it would be if the Nazis had won!

Oh, yeah, having the Nazis win would have been a disaster.

Losing the war was the best thing that ever happened to Germany.

I absolutely agree here from Denmark, Germany has been an excellent friend ally and partner for more than half a century now. 👍 😃

From his corner of politics, they think that would have been better. They just can’t say it directly or they would show themselves for what they are to their supporters, many of whom can’t see it yet.

I mean given what’s been happening these last two years and given US imperial wars since 1945, World War 2 looks less like a fight between fascism and democracy and more like a battle over which flavour of genocidal white supremacy would rule: Teutonic or Anglo Saxon.

Er yeah I have the benefit of hindsight. That’s how historical assessment works. My comment was on US policy since 1945 culminating in the dismantling of the pretence of international law to effect a genocide so not sure what recency bias means in that context.

Thanks for the insult though, nicely sums up what passes for debate on World News.
