If you ever bothered to use them you would find that they do not charge you for the privilege. They do offer some services that you must pay to use but you are not forced to use them and can do without them all if you are conscientious enough to cover your own ass for mistakes

Most free tax services have a income ceiling and the free service is being subsidized by the government. So we are paying our tax money for it, it’s never free. I made decent money so I won’t get the subsidized free service most likely. It’s not that I can’t afford it, it’s just that it’s complete bullshit that they spent the tax money creating a great free tax service and their shelving it to prop up fucking private corporations further. I should not have to pay a second time to a private company to pay my taxes easily. The whole system is fucked. I’m so sick of Trump‘s bullshit. Well, if you don’t have a complicated tax return, meaning you only have a 9-5 job and no other income streams. You can file it yourself.
Normally I would be easy, but I’m dealing with the federal tax credit for solar. Getting it in under the wire before Trump‘s dumbass cancels the program. Could’ve done it myself with the free site. Probably going to go with a local tax professional now. If I’m gonna spend money, I’d rather go with a local person than giving money to these fucking websites. I don’t really blame my Dad for it, he’s in a pretty bad spot money-wise. He has to support him, my stepmom, my sister, my two stepsisters PLUS the newborn twins one of them just had, my little brother, my cousin that lives with us, two dogs, a turtle, AND myself whenever I come over. We had so many people living with us at one point he had to set up some new walls and doors in what used to be my little brothers toy room to turn it into two separate bedrooms.
He voted for Trump entirely because of his belief that if he became president again, we would be as financially stable as we were when he was first president. Back when we could afford going on a camping trip twice a year, back when our fridge was regularly stocked with ingredients to make our own lunches, back when he could afford to buy a whole 200$ game console for my birthday, ect. The Founding Fathers made a blood pact to NEVER do an income tax and ONLY raise money via Tariffs, which is the perfect and Godly way to generate tax revenues. Every president who has ever levied a national income tax has FAILED. And Trump isn’t going to fail this nation by letting people pay that tax for free.
By abolishing the free filing provision, we are going to come one step closure to guaranteeing nobody (earning more than $500k/year) has to pay it again.
Oh there’s still “IRS Free File”, which is a different thing where you have to go through a middle man to get it while they try their damndest to “upgrade” you to the paid version. And presumably they got some kind of money from the US gov either way.
Direct File was a sane program that cut them out and let people file their taxes completely directly. The leeches lobbied against it.
