    Interesting, I wonder what motivates their choice for costa rica. Not an especially progressive place, it is very much under US influence to the point that a friend’s Sandinista parents describe it as essentially a US military base.

      The motivation is they’re old and want a free vacation lmao. I doubt it’s much better than Atlanta (or California? I thought she lived in San Francisco for a time). I guess maybe less people will know you’re trans due to the language barrier?

      Idk I’ve talked with her at length before she’s a pretty big lib. Being trans in the 90s (when she made the flag) was fundamentally more dangerous than now imo. And just in general it’s more dangerous for young people dependent on others.

        Ya, I looked into moving to Costa Rica when I was younger and wanted to escape the US. Costa Rica has residency requirements that either require you to have a certain amount of income or make investments locally, usually by starting a business and employing locals. Weird place to escape to, unless they’re hoping the GoFundMe will give them seed money to start a biz or something.
