On January 1, 2025, California’s daylighting law (AB 413) went into effect, making it illegal to park within 20 feet of crosswalks.

A bit horrified that this wasn’t the law already. Baby steps.

As for the marking: in my country (Israel) just about every curb is color coded to indicate things like this.

    Red-white: no parking.

Blue-white: paid parking by the municipality.

    Grey (unpainted): Free parking.

Black-white: No stopping for any reason. Used on traffic islands, mostly.

In the US most places you can’t park are painted red already, it’s just that the new law extends the no-parking zone in so many places they haven’t been able to paint them all yet. We also have yellow and white loading zones, green 15-minute parking, and blue disability parking.

Oh wow. This is what I hated about driving in Southern California - the blind turns. I’m sorry I can’t see through tinted windshields or solid metal. If you’re going to allow cars to drive, they need to be able to drive without guessing. Alternatively, you know, also add public transport thanks
