Its great! Runs everything ive thrown at it well, aside from things that just have trouble being emulated. Just finished Bayonetta 2, switch version, and it ran smooth as hell. I went from a 3+ to a 5 and it helped a lot with certain GC games and Wii stuff too. By helped I mean “squeezed more frames out.” Had it since release and have had 0 issues.

are people actually saying its super not ok to pirate this? this definitely seems like a game where theres a very strong argument that the devs deserve money, but its still a personal decision

I can’t play the damn game and I own it. I don’t know but after I had to move my computer shit, now Steam won’t recognize any controller, wired or bluetooth.

    game is really cool

piracy is fine. i think the indie/aaa divide is an artificial cope designed to inject a sense of moral discernment where it doesn’t belong.

it’s probably goty so imo if you can support a guy for making his magnum opus do it but otherwise like, there are more important things than lawful commerce for lots of people right now

Indi? You mean petite bourgeois, smol lil guy.

stardew valley sold 41 million copies as of 2025, one of the potential romantic partners is a highschool aged child who lives with her parents.

As far as I could find none of the characters have canon ages and the dev said they were at least 20 so seems a bit much to get mad about

please tell me how you define ‘indie’ in terms of the games industry please, because i’m very confused at your post but we can start there.

indie doesn’t necessarily have class implications to me, although if i think about it, one can assume that even a one man or two man dev team on a passion project will likely have resources that flags them as bouge but idk this doesnt make sense, maybe it will if you explain how you define indie tho

I also think that there’s a really, REALLY vast difference between an indie game with 1-3 people working on it out of a living room and an “indie” game where it’s up to 50 people working out of an office with the marking+translation+accessibility+QA+etc. support of a major triple-A corporation.

I bought the game but piracy isn’t a problem lol. It’s not like they aren’t making enough money on it, especially considering steam broke with how many people were buying it day one.

    Hope you’re enjoying it!

I’m often all for piracy, but Silksong? Come on man. They actually put their heart into their games and charge a reasonable price.

Silksong is gonna make another cool $15 million for Team Cherry. I’ll end up buying 4 more copies before it’s said and done so that at the very least offsets Corgi pirating it. I’m also pretty sure TC are the kinds of devs like the Ultrakill or Disco Elysium devs that would rather you just pirate and enjoy it if you can’t afford it. This is also the mentality of people like Devon Price, the author of Unmasking Autism, who has said as much. Some creators are actually chill people.

Also the Retroid Pocket 5’s hardware makes it a pretty much one and done purchase. I have 4-5 emulators and I probably spent 3x that on them all said and done. Their hardware runs the gamut of barely emulating N64 to being able to play almost all retro up to but not the Retroid Pocket 4. $200 for something that will be good for the next 10 years is smart.

If it can emulate Switch I actually might grab it as my Christmas gift lol. Not only is that dope as fuck but while we are processing this divorce, I’m realizing that since our oldest plays my Switch mostly, a lot of his hours clocked are on that. Might just let him keep it and grab an RP5 lol.

Yeah, im happy to talk about it! Eden is my emulator of choice, it makes getting the latest drivers super easy. It also just got a new update 3 days ago thats pretty rad. Helps with some compatability issues. You can also get older versions of emulators to try out if needed, depending on the game. Its a pretty fun little project, but I enjoy tinkering here and there.

No, not really. Pretty much the cheapest of it’s kind imo. Anything x86 is going to be at least double, if not triple or more. Switch 2 is double the price. Anything cheaper is making significant compromises and imo isn’t comparable.

edit: just going to keep talking because I’ve been very interested in these devices lately. I’d say the closest comparison devices would be like the odin 2 which has a more powerful chip but is $300, or the Thor which starts at $250 for the same chip as the Retroid pocket 5 (handheld OP has). Anbernic recently put out an all metal handheld for $280, worse processor and smaller screen though. Those are probably the three its most comparable to it. RP5 is a really good value for what’s currently on the market.

FWIW I own an ungodly amount of these stupid little handheld consoles. Anbernic stuff is the best IMO but the retroid is also pretty neat.

Main beef with the retroid is just that it runs android. The devices with minimal Linux systems are way cooler IMO.

The pocket 5 runs rocknix as well, as does the Odin 2. Linux definitely has some good things going for it but I’m coming around on android a bit, the sleep is much better.

I have an Anbernic xx device and love it, its just a different beast then the RP5. snes/gba is where I feel like my xx shines, not gamecube/wii/ps2/light switch.

I’ve personally never had sleep issues with my Linux handhelds but as a daily Linux desktop user I’m painfully aware that it’s not on par with android.

All the android bloat just drives me nuts. I just don’t really love having the playstore and email and all that on my gaming device.

The simplicity of the Linux devices and the way they just do one thing really appeals to me.

FWIW I don’t actually care much to play any games past PS1/N64 on handheld. Anything later just feels better suited for a desktop or steam deck (totally different class of device IMO).

The developer (Team Cherry) has three employees. Off of concurrent player count on Steam alone (so not including Playstation, Xbox, Switch sales) they made $10 million in a day. They’re going to be ok if somebody pirates their game.
