It’s likely that most people think of themselves as a should-use-Morgan-Freeman-voice kind of person, when in reality they are a deserves-only-Bobcat-Goldthwait-voice kind of person.

I guess this is why Facebook spends millions of dollars on content moderation
Meanwhile reddit is shitting all over the people who were donating these millions of dollars worth of content moderation to them.
Anybody who invests in the reddit IPO must be an absolute idiot.
Seriously. There are tech companies out there which are 100% scams and they are better run than reddit. They do not understand how their own product works. DO NOT BUY!!!
This is the next stage of protest. Running subreddits into the ground my malicious compliance.
There is another important thing that has to be done to complement this: Everybody should publicly push the idea that anybody willing to invest in Reddit is an absolute idiot. That everyone involved with the IPO (except reddit themselves) are rubes being scammed by reddit.
Pointing out that the value proposition of reddit has gone to shit by highlighting that they trashed some of their largest communities will help making that case.
Well, it’s not quite fantasy, but the Laundry Files novels by Charles Stross merge the concept of “math/algorithms is magic” with lovecraftian horror and satire.
Das ist so absurd
Nee, das ist Hessen. So läuft das hier bei uns.
Since they are looking for revenue, selling/renting out is quite likely.
I guess everything connected with Disney will be next.
Though I wonder if reddit is still in the grey zone where they can’t really enter a relationship with big media conglomerates because their reputation precedes them.
I mean, big mouse will probably not become involved with a company that hosts a lot of pornography.
There is a torrent out there because some company did that up to March 2023. I forgot the name, but it should be findable.
But be warned, the whole thing is 2TB.
First up, thanks for your hard work!
Nevertheless, we are still running on a budget VPS.
As things are currently developing, it is almost a certainty that all reddit alternatives on the fediverse will get absolutely hammered on the 12th.
I know you are working on an infrastructure update. I just sent you a few bucks via buymeacoffee to support that. However, it could well be possible that the new infrastructure will also become overwhelmed during the days following the 12th, requiring another update in short notice.
At some point, things might become really expensive.
What I’m trying to say is: Don’t be hesitant to ask for donations. I think many of the users here right now are acutely aware of how important the next few days are going to be for the post-reddit fediverse ecosystem. Growth needs servers, servers need money and I’m sure many users would be willing to to chip in.
If the official name is magazines, then why not use “mags”?
That’s going to be interesting.
Here in Germany, we are forced to use Windows in schools because “it’s what the kids need in the real world”.
By forcing Windows to work cloud-only, they are literally making it illegal to use in schools here, because we can’t force children to use anything doing data-harvesting in order to pursue their education.
Fun times ahead!
