Agree, “indie” has become an aesthetic. If fucking Microsoft funded a 2D platformer with painterly visuals to a 40 million dollars budget it would still be called indie
E33 shouldn’t be on this list at all either. Fantastic game sure but I’m pretty sure their budget was absurdly high compared to some of these other games.
Half the nominees here are also on the GOTY list lol this is like when the best foreign film oscar noms also get nominated for best picture

It’s definitely not for everyone. I played the first day and immediately dropped it, but I’ve also heard glowing reviews so YMMV
It’s GotY for me, for sure, among these choices. It’s one of those games that, even if the gameplay isn’t for you, you gotta be impressed by the sheer VOLUME of content and attention to detail.
It’s very niche. You have to enjoy learning a run-based drafting system, looking at things, taking notes, and being a total conspiracy theory cork board goober, to really get a lot out of it.
I only played to the first ending (there are many layers past this) and thought its puzzle designs were too boring to warrant how much effort it wanted out of me. But some people get really really into it, and I don’t think they’re wrong or anything.
