Depends. Its something you have to ve made for, but driving up and down the field the whole day can be quite relaxing. Its also ideal for listening to podcasts.

Doing this while being high is not only quite dangerous, but can also lead to quite poor results.

Drug tests are expensive theater. If the goal is accountability, audits and transparent reporting actually work.

I figure so many of them are so old the drug test would come out inconclusive due to the drug cocktails they probably take daily. Just think of all the shit people have to take in retirement homes then add in a factor of free healthcare and access to top tier doctors who can prescribe without concern over ethics.

Sounds like a fail to me. We will hold them to the same standards we would be held to. Can’t give a clean test then you are fired. We are also definitely going to watch you pee just like they do to all the poors as well. Turnabout is fair play.

Watch how fast drug tests would be made illegal.

This makes me unreasonably upset. Farmers need to be drug tested AND breathalyzed. They also need to provide up to date household income information, including the gross income of anyone living on their property. They should also be required to provide last 3 to 5 employer references, verification they are working 40 hours per week or volunteering an equivalent amount at a state approved business, this all has to be done on an online site that requires desktop computer access. You can’t use Chrome or Firefox, only Microsoft Edge. If they don’t fill out the forms and attach the appropriately filled out paper documents properly, they will get a mailed statement letting them know they were denied and can re file after a 30 day waiting period. They can call to speak to their case manager, but there is only a phone tree that takes them to voicemail. If they miss the call back from the case manager, their file will be flagged as unresponsive and may require filling out all forms and paperwork again. They may also be denied because of typos, unfinished forms on the case manager side, or an unreasonable reading of acceptance rules.

This is not commentary on social services in America at all /s

Eah. A lot of “farmers” are land owners who hire other people to work on their farms. The average net worth of an American farming household is like, north of $1.5 million iirc.

1.5 million is not that much. Also theres a massive difference between how much you own (without debt) and how much money you make. Even while 1.5 million may sound like a lot it is in fact a quite small farm. They are probably not making that much money (also remember, that a lot of their income gets tunneled directly into paying back debt for investments.

And there’s a lot of right to repair fights. If you think a Honda trying to lock you out for not taking it to the dealership for an oil change is bad, just imagine how bad it is for somebody with a combine that costs most of that million.

Not just the equipment, but also the costs for land and buildings. In my region a single hectare of land costs around 10-20k€ so for a small farm (which would be at around 50ha) you would pay 500k to 1m € just for the land alone. You havent bought a single piece of equipment, you didnt build a building and depending on what your structure is, you also havent bought a single animal.

Everything is of course expensive. One of my exes was a farm girl. They had a smallish farm 250 Acres (101 Hectares).

He had a couple dozen cows, planted every other inch he could find, and rented a few neighboring fields. He had everything for planting/maintaining/harvesting. Anytime something got paid off, he picked up something else. Everything was a juggling act. Every free dollar was reinvested. They lived relatively decently, but modestly. Everyone got whatever they needed; nothing was extravagant. He had some outrageous amount in loans, many millions.
