Montana Republican leaders are voting on whether to discipline transgender state lawmaker who has been silenced on the statehouse floor for comments against a bill to ban gender-affirming medical care for children.

“Every time that one of these votes came; every time the speaker refused to allow me to speak; when the protesters came and demanded, my thought was twofold,” she said. “Pride in those who stood up to defend democracy and a hope that in some small way, I could rise to that moment individually and do the work they sent me to do.”

The GOP continues to make themselves look like incredible assholes. Is shooting themselves in the foot an effective strategy?

To their base this is probably perceived as a victory. Republicans have been radicalizing for decades now with no signs of slowing down. I don’t know where it will lead, but it scares me.

Reminds me of tactics employed during the civil war era. I would love to see an analysis of when/how these kinds of tactics are employed throughout US history. I’m no scholar on this, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was employed during periods of deep division.
