Was playing online and saw someone with the name “Content” but the n was replaced with a Russian character. This makes it unsearchable (directly) in both English and Russian.
The next day: ‘What? Six bank robberies!? But I just vandalized the library!’ ‘Nice try. They saw your plate with all the 1’s and I’s.’ ‘That’s impossible! I’ve been with my car the whole ti-- … wait. Ok, wow, that was clever of her.’
That’s why you get some friends together to all have similar plates. Similar cars too, if possible.
“Was it the gray Corolla, or the gray Camry? Was de-badged?” “They are all de-badged! What about the prius from the bank robbery?” “There are three cyan prii, that fled from that” “Were they driving an LE or SE model trim?” “No idea, did anyone check what wheels they had?” “Oh, they are known to swap the wheels of the different trims of that generation” “I’ve heard that they wrap the cars before they pull a job, so they don’t expose the real paint job” “GAHHHH”
We once went on a Nissan Skyline cruise, which was basically 30+ Nissan Skylines travelling together between landmarks.
At one point a police car came past the other way just as two of them did a rolling race which involved much noise and tyre smoke.
Police car spins around and arrives to find… 30+ of the same model car parked up, and no one remembers who it was that might have done it.
Security through obscurity worked fine that day.
That’s why you get some friends together to all have similar plates. Similar cars too, if possible.
Yeah, if you want conspiracy and RICO charges added to make sure you spend the rest of your life being tortured in prisons…
I mean I think the Toyota Corolla is still the most popular new car worldwide, and bland colors like white and gray are the most common as they are neutral colors that everyone seems to be okay with. Not our fault we want to use dependable boring transportation for our families, officer…
How is it that there is always a fitting xkcd no matter what kind of hilarious situation is mentioned?
(Not actually Randall)
Maybe I don’t wanna be found.
But also: Copy and paste are even easier than typing.
I wonder how many people are found nowadays by searching vs being delivered by the algorithm.
At least on Lemmy, you don’t really search for people except in very rare cases. On Mastodon, users are more important than the topics they talk about, so over there it’s a whole different ballgame.
This is what I was thinking. Most people probably just come together algorithmically or by having played a round together, and not necessarily by search. If there is the need to search for a specific player, there is also often a second player ID that can be used instead of the display name.
Maybe they like to stand out but don’t like to be searched out.
Why is that ironic?
Like rain on your wedding day.
My city got rained on during a lunar eclipse. I’m not kidding.
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
We don’t talk about Bruno
But we are indoors?
And do we have a use for all these spoons?
Classic example of faux Cyrillic.
