That is the big one, but anything that could be taken poorly as bigoted regardless of meaning or truth can get admin actions.

Cultural differences, historical facts, it is all filtered through every flag everyone posts, from influence agencies to keyboard warriors firing from their hip, through an ai system no where as developed as they claim, and overseen by unnamed real people that may be dumb as shit, are working on dishonest metrics.

We hanged people like Charlie Kirk at Nuremberg. Literally. That is not an exaggeration. Charlie Kirk used the exact same journalist techniques, the race-baiting, the “honest debates” about the existence of minority groups, the breathless reporting of every crime committed by members of minority groups, as Julius Streicher. Streicher was a leading Nazi propagandist and agitator. At Nuremberg, it was recognized that even though his crimes were primarily committed through acts of speech, he was still guilty. His trial consisted mostly of presentations of his own works and speeches. He was charged and convicted of incitement to genocide and crimes against humanity. For all the innocent lives he helped end, he was hanged from the neck until dead.

And Charlie Kirk did the exact same thing. He even shared some of the same targets as the Nazis. His diatribes against trans people could have been taken right out of one of Streicher’s publications. Charlie Kirk openly called for the elimination of trans people entirely. The man was guilty of incitement to genocide. In a just world, he would have been tried, convicted, and hanged for his crimes.

The tragedy of Charlie Kirk’s death was that it was an act of vigilante justice. No one deserves to take a life, not Charlie Kirk, and not his assassin. It is a tragedy that he never faced his day in court. But one should never make the mistake of thinking he was a hero or martyr. The world is objectively a better place with him six feet under ground. He dedicated his whole life to hurting other people and taking innocent lives. His whole project was an attempt to incite genocide against vulnerable minority groups. He was guilty of crimes against humanity and incitement to genocide. It’s a tragedy that he never faced a jury, but there is nothing tragic about the fact the man himself is dead. Him being dead is worthy of celebration. Him being killed is not.

Charlie Kirk was shot by an extremest conservative and died defending his position on gun control and gun violence.

I can’t imagine a better way for him to have died.

    Lemmy test this:

    ahem

If I had a gun in my hand, and war criminal and leader of russia Vladimir Putin were standing in front of me. I’d aim at that PoS, pull the trigger repeatedly until it empties, then reload, and keep shooting at his fucking face until he is dead. And I will kick his face, piss and shit on him, and teabag him.

Same with every other threat to freedom and democracy such as: Xi, Kim Jong Un, and [… redacted, my laywers had advised me not to finish the list for legal reasons]

Pretty sure this is legal to say, isn’t it? A pretty harmless joke, not even a real threat, besides, I’m not in russia so it doesn’t count as a real threat, right? But reddit would surely just delete it as appeasement to the world leaders.

Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this image. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this one image. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW.

    Theoretically, anything.

In practice? Mods abuse their power here at similar rates as those on reddit.

It’s good we have the modlog to see for ourselves why moderation teams shouldn’t be taken seriously, but it hasn’t stopped them from doing what they want, when they want.

It’ll be nice when people start recognizing the need for open discussion and we get more fediverse instances that allow freedom of speech.

I have seen disagreements with dishonesty used for social movements be spun into bigotry, and mods buying that and banning, despite clear bad faith attacks with no basis.

Call someone a bigot of some kinds it immediately shuts down and cancels any points until the accused goes on the defensive.

Those using this tactic in bad faith, like many mods, are cynical pieces of shit. They do not care they are hurting the goals of the movement, just about their place in it as a shit slinger.

The Lemmy world news sub is a trans rights echo chamber.

I fully support trans rights and hate the rhetoric against them. People should be allowed to live their lives the way they feel comfortable within reason and law.

But Jesus. I blocked world news when I got into it with an mod who said I’m a transphobe when I brought up a trans issue. Sighted that I had multiple downvoted comments as a slight against me.

If you can’t listen to criticism get off the internet.

I had the same thing, because I thought they were being too vicious against people like author JK Rowling’s while people like Kirk went around talking shit with impunity that was labeled trans hate.

There was Zero plausibility, I called out what I think is an overly aggressive in some parts campaign that has made things worse and was immediately accused of being a bigot myself and then blocked and canceled. No discussion or mod notes just your banned.

People learn they can shut down criticisms with bigotey accusations no matter how flimsy and they use it. Meanwhile they lost the larger cultural fight while they were falsley accusing allies of bigotry. As always on a left purposefully played off each other by organized interests.

Yea one of the admins/founders of this platform, I think his username is Davel(?) is SUPER pro-censorship of whatever he doesn’t like and will just remove non-violative stuff that doesn’t conform to his myopic worldview. There’s definitely still tyrannical mods/admins here, but credit where it’s due to the founders — it’s easy enough to just make a new account or find a new instance lol.

Considering you’re a one day account I’ll take your experience with a pinch of salt, but in my experience it’s all a matter of what instance you choose to reside in and what communities you wish to host.

The instance server hosts of lemmy are under no obligation to have no restrictions and allow anyone to post anything under their service. On that same token, no one is stopping you from making your own instance and calling your own shots.

Reddit does not and will never allow you to do this. They’re centralized, a single entity that can be brought down with enough bad press and have an incentive to maintain control without much restraint. The opposite is true here: you can sign up anywhere, and people actively want their communities to be visited so there’s a reason people play nice to be federated. Instances that let anyone say anything or refuse to moderate tend to be de-federated.

The modlog exists for transparency, and what you may consider abusive moderators is justifiable in another user’s eyes. If you’re fed up, migrate, or make your own instance with blackjack and hookers.

The mythical “free speech server” you are looking for is essentially 4chan, and you probably understand why not many want to create a clone of that model here.

Idk if federated alternatives are to reach critical mass we would need instances that have a clear set of rules, that you could challenge if a moderator applied them unfairly, and even opted for a trial amongst your peers for if it was against the rules. Allowing moderators to be Petty tyrants in a feudalistic system attracts the wrong people that will prevent the fedivers from achieving it’s destined Glory.

Likewise moderators found to be abusing their power should have some means of correcting their behavior or removing them. Other moderators cannot be trusted for this, they all protect each other’s rights to be dicks so they can be dicks. We need a better system set up better to start.
