Poland’s state-owned defense conglomerate PGZ is building three new ammunition factories and investing nearly 2.4 billion zlotys (over 565 million euros) in the project. With this move, Poland aims to become the largest ammunition producer in Central Europe and one of NATO’s key suppliers. The decision is driven by the need to reduce dependence on U.S. stockpiles—especially at a time when the United States has halted part of its ammunition deliveries to Ukraine.
Yeah, seems small, but then again Poland is not consuming said 250k monthly on a battlefield, so my guess would be its a calculation of how much is needed for the storage vs to be sent to Ukraine in cooperation with other EU countries establishing new production lines and Ukrains own production. Also theres the rough assessment of Russia needing about 4 shells per one western due to their lack of precison. And finally, thats still prep for the last/current war. With new counter drone rapid attack tactics its not obvious if such massive ammunition stockpiles will be as crucial as they are now. Already Ukrainians forced by supply issues are using drones in place of what would be arty fires normally. As drone autonomy tech develops this might become obsolete in a few years.
