Thank you for the laugh. Probably better than the photo would have been
lmao that sucks so bad. could you keep a backup in your bag just in case of stuff like this?
Backup in the other sd slot on the laptop
That could be a sticker I would like to stick.
Ripppp 🥲
At least you gave some to folks here a wince and chuckle. The best art evokes emotion 😅
Mildly useful tip: when you take a card or battery out of your camera, leave the door open until you put it back in. That way you’ll know if you forgot to put one of them back into the camera. I do this and it’s saved me a few times.
Doesn’t that increase the chance of breaking the door? I’d say having extras is a safer choice.
Extras can be pricey. I have two kids in youth sports and shoot a few games a season to give everyone photos. Bursts on an A9II drastically increase the odds of getting some good hero shots like a ball leaving a batt or going into a glove, but it’s really easy to blow past 4k photos. Fast cards tend to be $$ :(
So anyway, I was at a game last weekend and scoping things out. I flipped the camera on and…
Ideally you’d have extras too! Normally if I’m taking the card or battery out of my camera, leaving the camera safely in my bag (which is also not being moved), so there’s no real risk of damage.
I’m a clutz some times. So, I have to close mine right away.
Damn I wish I thought of that before going to a fall festival for pumpkin themed photos with my family. I snapped so many pics before I noticed.
ONE SHOT, one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted.
Mom’s spaghetti!
“Not to worry, I’ll just stop by a Walmart or whatever on my lunch break and grab a cheap card.”
…
“They want how much for four gigs?”
Good thing cameras have internal storage, right?
Guy whispers in ear
Oh… not anymore?
wait, were did your second card go?
It’s in the camera they took this pic with
How do you not have backups with your gear? I’ll have like four on me at any given time.
See the reflection of my hi-vis work jacket there? That’s why. I’m a construction worker who brought their 15 year old camera to work.
and by accident you went through the rite of passage of all photographers! welcome to the club :) now you’ll carry 4 with you everywhere lol
I keep my cards in a little fluorescent-colored zipper wallet that holds like 50 of them I got off Temu highly recommended
If I haven’t gone completely pants on head insane, don’t most cameras have at least a small internal memory reserve? I mean it’s always possible that this one doesn’t but whatever.
The higher end ones typically do not.
Nowdays probably but this is an ancient 550D.
Very few high end cameras actually have an option to store photos internally, unfortunately. I think some super high end Hasselblads internally have an SSD (would be cool if more manufacturers did this), but most can’t write photos without a card.
This is something I haven’t thought about much since switching over to film primarily. Its hard to forget all those rolls of film, im going to have to be careful when I pick up digital again
The other camera has worked. So what.
The other camera (my phone) doesn’t have a 200mm telephoto lens.
…yet?
That’s the spirit!!
Phones are about 30% camera now, so eventually they will.
Yeah, you go to read reviews about phones and 2/3 of it is talking about the camera…
Because everything else barely matters anymore. Most modern phones are powerful enough for everything to run smoothly. Hell, most people don’t even really need the high specs when all they do is social media and internet browsing.
And then you have the Xiaomi Ultra range which is basically a bridge camera with a phone attached!
After the first time I drove 3.5 hours to a dark sky spot for astrophotography (late at night with no civilization nearby to avoid light pollution) with no SD card I bought a 32gb card, wrapped it up with tape and have it in my wallet at all times.
Thankfully that was a 3 night camp out so I drove to the nearest town and saved the other two nights hahah
