Most men don’t have children and most die alone. Lots of men are alone during their lives and suffer from it. And you want to make these stories invisible, can’t say it aloud, can’t mention it, can’t say it to each other, can’t say it to the world? Who else is even telling the truth of these men’s lives and the very real possibility it won’t be happily ever after, as it ain’t for so many. The fact that the only voices that speak to these experiences are exploitative ones does more to emphasises how invisible this experience is to society, to culture. Where else are these stories told, heard and empathise with? Nowhere. There is a need in the culture for men and the only people willing to speak to it are these people. Where is the rest of society, of culture, of human beings who care enough to help, instead of a treat them like they are an annoyance that needs to simply be different? These people are desperate enough to cling to something that bad for them because it’s all there is to grab and they need something. It’s doesn’t seem like much of a choice.
