Holy shit his take is that it was suicide because of the cheating allegations being correct? That’s fucking wildly inappropriate, someone is dead. I was just making a lighthearted jab at Kramnik being obsessed with him.
I hear that in chess, the GMs “try” to keep it civil and make accusations and complaints vague. Which means this was so egregious that it made Hikaru break the facade and outright say that Kramnik can rot in hell
Becoming a GM is one of those things where you not only have to be naturally predisposed to that skillset, but also spend every waking moment from childhood to adulthood thinking about Chess to get there. So it sort of selects for a type of rich, privileged, extremely determined person who doesn’t know anything about the world outside of 64 black and white squares.
In general, you know. I’m sure some of them are cool.
I think it’s nearly impossible to dedicate your life to a game that’s culturally synonymous with smartness without ending up pretty cocky when it turns out you’re the best at it lol
Made me respect Danya even more because he seemed pretty grounded imo
I mean, yeah. Kramnik’s initial cheating accusations turned into a fixation that had all the characteristics of a harassment campaign. Even if Danya cheated (I don’t know one way or another), Kramnik’s actions are totally unhinged.
Did Kramnik do it?
The way that ghoul is acting on twitter, he probably thinks himself that he’s at fault

the majority of chess GMs i know of seem like completely insufferable people

In a way this is why chess is still segregated. The women didn’t want to put up with the dickhead men.

The only good chess GM I know about is Botvinnik.
An aptronym if ever I saw one.
