It’s fine. It’s not that remarkable and will be largely ignored in a few years
I’ve noticed how quickly it’s been ignored in a the now. People have said it is good, but it doesn’t seem like a game that has stuck with people beyond being more flashy fun game to switch brain off to. Which is fine, but not how a game has lasting impact.
There’s only so much impact you can have in the genre of “take turns selecting from a menu until you kill god with the power of friendship”. It’s so well established genre wise and it’s difficult to maintain pacing, but it’s too constrained to allow players to find their own narrative.
I do want to be clear, it’s very pretty and the performances are generally good, gustave especially is done well and the opening is strong but at the end of the day it’s like avatar. Pretty, sounds good, no dealbreaking flaws, just very comfortable and safe to the point that it fails to leave a mark beyond “I enjoyed looking at that”.
Which is fine but I mean how many awards need to be piled on this thing? In what ways is it particularly distinct from something like ghosts of yotei?
