Any further comments attempting to dispute Yasuke’s societal status, disparage his inclusion in game or containing statements bordering on concern trolling for historical accuracy will be swiftly removed and met with a ban.

Demanding historical accuracy from the video game where a prominent plot point is ancient aliens reincarnating themselves through genetic memory is kind of like asking for an authentic Italian style pizza from a California Pizza Kitchen

Pizza is Neapolitan. It’s a distinct speciality of Naples, developed at at time when Italy didn’t even exist as a nation. Saying pizza is Italian is like saying haggis is British. It might be technically true, but not really.

        amazing

You shouldn’t be, even if you choose to define Neapolitan Pizza as the first “real” pizza, it and other styles - such as the pan baked Sicilian - were widespread across central and southern Italy well before the 20th century.

All Pizza is bread with toppings. If it’s not a pizza because it uses the wrong type of bread, so is every single american version of pizza, none of which use a neapolitan dough.

You’re trying too hard to be contrarian now - I said “all pizza is bread with toppings”, not “all bread with toppings is pizza”. Open faced turkey sandwiches are assembled after the constituent parts have been cooked, rather than the bread and toppings being cooked together.
You’re not going to terrorise any italians by claiming pizza isn’t italian, they’re just going to think you’re a stupid american, and possibly a redditor when you try to “well acshully” them. If you want to terrorise italians you need to suggest heavily preprocessed foods as pizza toppings, ask how they make their spaghetti bolognese, or yell the names of pasta dishes at them when they’re speaking in Italian.

This shit is so stupid. Ubisoft hasn’t made a good game since… 2007? People should be upset that the first game about a black samurai is gonna be dogshit glitchfest with 500 special deluxe editions

I thought the recent side scrolling Prince of Persia game was great, and to be honest I thought Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was well done. I liked the more ambiguous unmasking the order approach it took. (and the Greek sea shanties)

Odyssey is extremely annoying for me. The quest system is the more annoying.

Talk to NPC: 2 possibles questions -> 1 - Tell something irrelevant that I don’t care, 2 - Tell the area of the objective -> Go there send the “hawk” -> Watchdog 2 drone skin hawk search the area to find the objective -> complete the objective.

The earlier Ubisoft questline of talking to the NPC -> go to the pinpoint on your map -> complete was less annoying than the extra unnecessary steps of Odyssey.

The Anno games kick arse and I think they count as ubisoft now as they bought the studio. Which worries me.

Yasuke is depicted as a samurai in the Nioh games and none of these nerds cared at all. Those games are made by a Japanese studio even.

Also from talking to a few friends the average Japanese person seems to regard Yasuke as one of the coolest guys to ever live

yeah but he was also a real guy, William Adams. British guy who got to Japan in the 17th century, was one of only two survivors of a ship from Europe. He got appointed as an advisor type samurai to the shogun for ten years because the shogunate wanted western style boats.

Also Nioh has you fighting wizards and giant frog monsters and stuff. It’s awesome but I never once heard gamer types complain about historical inaccuracy.

Main character of the first is William Adams, a fictional irishman who became a samurai, named after a real englishman who became a samurai. Japan, or at least Team Ninja, seems to have something of a love of foreigners who became samurai.

The whole stupid “controversy” is distraction from the real problem, the fact that this game is being made by a particularly filthy company of filthy frenchmen

Damn it seems kind of weird that people are upset over this one thing in particular, but on the other hand I can’t think of any good examples of video games that were not historically accurate and no one got upset so it’s probably pretty normal and also I think the fact that the year of high school I missed was the one where history class is devoted to samurai means I don’t have a good handle on how much this inaccuracy destroys the immersion for a normal person.
