I sometimes think they get so fixated on this as some kind of psychogical distraction to avoid remembering their own country spent most of that war sitting on the sidelines making a profit.
America was on the sidelines converting most of a continent from a depression era economy to a war time economy and tooling up every manufacturer that made metal into making weapons. FFS, Singer (yes, the sewing machine company) made 1911 .45s.
Then we started sending war materiel to the allies measured in millions of tons.
Then we launched an invasion force of fucking biblical proportions just to get a toehold in France. All while fighting in Italy and Northern Africa, AND while fighting the Empire of Japan across the world’s largest ocean (with our best base and most of the best (7th) fleet wrecked).

There is a huge difference between entering a war to help stop acts of aggression, versus going around supporting acts of aggression, helping to depose democratically elected leaders, or funding genocides.
