Alissa Azar to pochodząca z Syrii amerykańska okołolewicowa/anarchistyczna działaczka zajmująca się tzw gonzo journalism i dokumentacją działań skrajnej prawicy w okolicach Portland.

*My godfather is currently on the phone. He said HTS has entered christian villages right by Kferram. He opened the front door of the house so we can hear. It’s a bunch of horns and a LOT of (celebratory?) gunfire. He said everything is closed in the area. He assured that they’re ok but very uncertain and worried for what the future holds. He said they’re telling residents we’re not going to harm you we’re just doing our thing and that HTS told the priest to let residents know to just stay home. He also just said he thinks that they have successfully brought down the statue of Assad in the village but he can’t confirm because it’s dark and he can’t see right now. There are also reports of Christian leadership given positions of power that Christians have never had before so HTS can foster support from Christians but I can’t confirm this. They’re questioning if this is something being done out of sincerity or are they mindful of the optics and social acceptance during early stages. He said the village is overflowing with displaced people who fled to the area. The schools have been closed to house refugees. But they’re in good spirits and were laughing on the phone. They refuse to leave the house and risk it being taken over.

Family in Aleppo also just said they’re all doing fine and just living their lives. Someone close to our family is trying to cross the border from Syria into Lebanon and the situation at the border is very bad. She’s been stuck there for over two days. Troops at the border are giving people a hard time and people are fighting amongst each other. She’s on the phone with my uncle screaming in tears. People are paranoid and worried other people are going to expose their political allegiances…. It’s very chaotic.*
