Now they just wait a couple years, then hit em with the OLED version while pretending that it’s some new space age technology
Wait they made this thing HOW MUCH and didn’t even make it OLED? My sides
Not a good LED screen either, no local dimming, bad peak brightness and smudgy motion. It “supports” HDR, but you might as well leave it off.
The processor is also 6 years old too
The O stands for outerspace.
Nintendo of America President and Chief Operating Officer Doug Bowser
No. There is no way.
Nominative determinism
Holy shit lmao 🤣
The character was named after him, he used to be called “King Koopa” but that wasn’t a very good name for a CEO.
The guy they made a massive example of for selling switch modkits a few years ago (they demanded so much in damages that the guy is having his future paychecks skimmed for life) is also called bowser. No im not joking
for every informed gamer that would have feelings about $80 games there are thousands of paypigs who are disney adults for nintendo, millions of casuals who don’t give a shit about “the industry”, and millions of parents who are buying a toy for the kids and don’t buy games often enough to be very price conscious.
we all already know “vote with your wallet” and unorganized boycotts are worthless.
Honestly I never thought $80 games would ever be a big issue in Europe/USA. Games have been at $60 for such a long time, and have become so much more complex that your average consumer can justify the price increase to themselves.
i think part of it is how fast they went from 70 to 80
What does this actually do that’s new? Only game I know for it is mario kart
It runs original switch games at appropriate frameratess
It’s the Switch but more powerful, bigger handheld screen, a bit bigger joy-cons, integrated chat functions. Definitely an incremental improvement rather than a drastic evolution. The line-up is a bit thin right now but that’s typical for the launch period.
The mouse-style control options seem neat, but yep.
It’ll get used effectively in like 2-3 first party games and be forgotten
Sad but true. I just want gyro aiming to take off more, it’s legitimately competitive with mouse and keyboard once you get used to it.
If Metroid Prime 4 uses it, I’ll be happy.
There’s a patch to make prime trilogy on dolphin work with kb+m controls
It’s already functional in at least one third party game, cyberpunk. That also has full KBM support too though, so they’re probably an outlier.
I was exaggerating, but it’ll probably have the same amount of (dis)use as the original Switch’s touchscreen controls lol
The new Donkey Kong game looks pretty cool. I’m too broke to afford it, but I’ll probably enjoy playing it in a few years lol.
It’s not going to make my jackbox games jokes funnier or stop my kid from putting black holes everywhere in ultimate chicken horse so I think that for me it’s just a regular switch that costs like, most of a mortgage payment.
Your comment got me curious.
It looks like West Virginia has the cheapest average mortgage payment at just over $1,600.
So more like 1/3 of a mortgage payment? Still too rich for my blood. We’re also like a year away from a switch2 exclusive pokémon game, plenty of time for me to pick one of these up used at a local pawn shop.
Nintendo’s dog fighting simulator is the one of the few treats I allow myself nowadays, I’m really going to be annoyed when I have to shell out several hundred dollars for a console upgrade In order to stay current.
I bought when the interest rates were lower, and I live in a pretty low COL area, closer to 1k.
How does everyone have money for this?
Klarna?
Affirm! Lmao, I think you’re right
Not the least but surprised. gamers are the Uber bootlickers of our world
Gamers see a black samurai they try and get fucking Japanese congress involved. Gamers see industry abuse and unethical gambling shit that kids are vulnerable to?
Oh look? The usual meal came with flavoring
The yasuke stuff is wild. Like how can you be so disgustingly racist that even seeing black people triggers you like little crybabies. Gamers are such repulsive freaks.
I literally stopped buying new consoles or games because I gave up on gamers being able to wait 24 hours after a game releases to see if it’s actually a completed game.
Honestly game critics seem to be a better judge of game quality than gamers as opposed to say film critics, whose audience seems to be other critics and the film industry itself. And remember most gamers play call of duty or what I call the Corolla of gaming
One game!
wait, seriously, it only has one launch title?
Only 1 exclusive
It has a $10 tech demo as well.
Nintendo aren’t all monsters smh.
paid demo
I normally buy the console day-one so that I have a version that supports the inevitable hardware security weaknesses… but the price makes me knees weak instead.
I’m a RETVRN guy for attack vectors on consoles being hardware based like for the PS1 era. Like I’m sure it is insanely harder than finding some sort of software bug in the bloat but also you can’t security patch “guy with a soldering iron”
PS2 slim straw and piece of tissue paper in the disc drive to swap out DVDs for burned discs was my first hardware hack lol.
Drilling a hole in the back of my dreamcast to tie a string to the lid sensor so that I could do the swap trick to play Japanese games is a very fond memory of mine.
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
They better fund nuclear fusion research with all that money.
Westoid moment
Wonderful. Infinite g*mer humiliation! Normalize 120$ games now!
Yeeeeeeesss
I havent played on consoles since the PS3 era. I dont think this is gonna change anytime soon. I have everything I need and want on PC these days
It’s kinda nuts to think that when the 360 came out, it was more powerful than the best consumer PC you could build (and arguably the PS3 also did, or would have done had it released in 2005 as planned), for $299 (less than 500 adjusted for inflation).
RETVRN
And with the new Xbox handheld being a rebadged Rog Ally running windows I’m left wondering what the future is
It’s kinda nuts to think that when the 360 came out, it was more powerful than the best consumer PC you could build
Are we talking price comparable or what? Do you have source for this because it just doesn’t seem true
The most powerful PC you could build in 2005 would have a 7800 GTX (AKA G70). Incidentally, that is the closest thing to PS3’s GPU, which was famously less powerful than 360’s. On the CPU side it’s harder to compare because of the different architectures, but it wouldn’t be matched (and exceeded) until 2006 with the Core 2 Duo processors.
You could have two of those GPUs in one PC. If you’re talking price vs performance it makes sense but the statement as stands is not accurate
Assuming you’re not CPU limited, what you’re doing scales with SLI and the drivers actually work, sure.
And that’s like…the entire purpose of consoles: a dedicated machine with hardware stronger than a PC meant exclusively for a specific type of software. Somehow that’s been forgotten (and by “somehow,” I mean capitalism enshittifying everything).
Mario-kart Worldism-nintendo-switch-twoism thought stays ahead
I know I’m a hater…But… Would it be so funny if someone found a way to brick them all…
Now being serious we all knew nintendo fans will carry the initial sales weight. Now remains to be seen how many 1st party games it will have how it handle mods and such and the prices. Nintendo trying to condition us to pay full price but it delivers mostly recycled shit, somehow I doubt the console will be the hit some think it will be, but seems it would not be the failure many expect to be.Removed by mod

Mods are 100% confirmed to have Switch 2s now.
I actually think I’d like you to comment. This person is looking forward to something that’s important to them. It’s not that weird tbh
I just find this sort of performative corporate fanboy culture really cringy
If this were a convention, video game tournament or other community-driven event I wouldn’t bat an eye, but dressing up and camping out for the launch of a piece of consumer electonics is just so lame
I appreciate you explaining and I get where you’re coming from. I’m not super into Nintendo, but I’ve known people who really care about the games and characters. It very much is a corporation first that does shitty things, but if the games are meaningful to people then I get being excited for a release. I’d probably line up if one of my favourite consoles/games got a big release
I’m a
pc gamer though, so idk anything about lining up for a console
God people really really fucking love their Pokemans
The next Pokemon game is going to be available on switch 1. The last pokémon game has been out for long enough that anyone who takes shiny hunting seriously has already filled out their dex.
Getting excited for the release of a specific game would be less weird. This just comes off as fanboying for a company and it makes my skin crawl. “Woohoo, look at me, I can afford to buy the newest expensive gadget on launch day while decked in Official Nintendo® merch while playing the previous Nintendo® Switch™, aren’t I special and cool”
I’m a pc gamer though, so idk anything about lining up for a console
There was that time when a subset of PC gamers was making very cringy memes about “Lord Gaben” but I think that’s less of a thing now
Yeah, if there was a launch title worth getting excited about I’d understand but I didn’t even know the switch 2 was coming out this week until I started seeing youtube thumbnails about how it just came out
Maybe if I loved mario kart but racing games were never my favorite genre and I always preferred f zero so I just don’t get the hype
