God its so fucking good. I’ve never played a story-heavy game and then wanted to immediately replay it. I’ve played through chapters 3 and 4 twice in the past month and I wanna replay it again already. Honestly if you haven’t played it, and you have any interest in story games, I recommend jumping in now. The release of chapters is such a fun and exciting time and I wouldn’t wanna miss future releases. Also if you don’t want to play, at least check out the OST because its without a doubt the best I’ve ever heard.

I liked chapter 3 more than 4, but the whole game is amazing, the soundtrack is one of the best in like everything, specially since I like music without lyrics just melody.

was originally waiting for a full release. Caved and played Ch1 & 2 back in January. Got to experience the anticipation of 3 & 4 without any of the waiting berdly-smug

I can’t wait until it’s fully done. I’m not playing it until it is. I’ve been burned by the episodic format before, I’m not doing it again.

Not really reading this post since I’m trying to get time to play it, but damn is it hard to avoid spoilers! I should just turn off my youtube recommended at this point

Haven’t played since Chapter 1, just started again, and yep, it’s really good! My partner likes voicing some of the characters while I voice the rest, it’s a fun time.

You might like Endless Empty. It’s kinda rough and the first real zone frankly looks pretty ugly, but overall it’s a really beautiful little indie RPG thing. It has my favorite premise for an RPG story:

    cw suicide

A burnout rockstar shoots himself in the head, and you play as the last coherent fragment of his ego inside his dying brain trying to do . . . anything as the mindscape disintegrates. Your sidekick is a projection of the motor nerve for his right index finger, named Trigger, who feels bad about their participation in the suicide.

I was just thinking about it because they had an announcement for the upcoming related title recently. It’s definitely one of my favorite JRPGs along with OFF. Honestly there’s a slightly higher chance you’d like Nepenthe, because it’s more Undertale-like in both mechanics and tone.

I definitely need to. I played Undertale before multiple times and it still holds a special place in my heart. It’s one of my favorite games, next to Portal. I do replay games sometimes, but as for story games I have replayed Undertale probably comes second next to Portal, and that’s partly because I would share the game (Undertale) with friends and family and help them when they struggled in certain monster encounters. When I finished the game for the first time, I archived the save file so that timeline was retained, as if the world was kept alive forever. Toby Fox’s music is amazing, I agree.

I really need to play and finish Earthbound, too, as I promised a friend who promised to finish Undertale after I convinced them to play.

    Sidenote:

I miss my friend. I haven’t talked to them in years. It’s hard for me to keep in touch with people who live distantly from me. If I wasn’t constantly working and struggling in capitalism, it would be easier for me to spend time with my friends and family. This existence under alienation is so lonely…my spouse is pretty much all I have. I miss the camaraderie I only had in short instances in my life. I do have it sometimes during party meetups, and I do have some cool friends in the party, but we are so busy and don’t have a lot of time to participate in casual hobbies and activities.

It’s genuinely a phenomenal 10/10 game, but I feel it was made specifically for a fandom to obsess over it, and I am glad for those people, I really am, but

I wouldn’t consider myself part of the fandom but I think they’re really enjoyable. I can’t ever put my finger on why it’s good but these games have just felt like they’re sorta classical fun? I dunno. I’m really picky about what I play, too shrug-outta-hecks

      https://steamdb.info/app/1671210/charts/

The game is estimated to have nearly 1 million owned copies, and that’s just on steam, and had over 100K players running the game at its peak.

Undertale has at least 6 million owned copies, with over 200K players running it at its peak.

I wouldn’t consider this game to be niche. It does have a fandom, but it’s a game enjoyed vastly by more people outside the fandom. I had to convince my friend to play despite avoiding it due to the obsessive fandom (which I have nothing against), and they genuinely enjoyed it, even when a “steam friend” called them the f-slur for playing it. I don’t think it’s fair or true to say this game is solely made for a fandom to obsess over when the game accrued wide popularity across all kinds of people.

Even people who love the game say there’s a lot of brainrot (complimentary?) and fandom stuff because there just objectively is. There’s literally a

        spoiler

semi-secret boss rush where the bosses are literally just fan theories about who Mike is.

There’s bits about Ralsei as merchandise with an actual plush. There’s just a ton of extremely “for the fans” content.

          That’s fair.

Nevertheless, my point is that the games are highly popular as they are approachable to most people, and many people cherish the story, the characters, and the gameplay. In instances of the “for the fans” content inside the games, I believe most people who do not participate in the fandoms just glaze them over and still enjoy the game. The fandom shouldn’t stir anyone away from playing the game, nor does it for at least hundreds of thousands to millions of people.
