I hope expedition 33 wins only so that streamer that told people to not vote for it gets angry
I’m not even going to ask who that streamer is. All Gamers must suffer
Whichever one you picture in your head, you’re probably right.

Lathing Hades II or Silksong winning GOTY just to stick it to AAA
Also wanting one of those two to win, despite having played none of the games on the list, just because I enjoy watching people run those games.
Big year for AAA foot-fetish-type games
Kingdom Cum On Feet 2: Toeliverance
is there something i didn’t know about donkey kong?
do the apes wear shoes?

yeah like 8 billion of them
i am today years old just realizing the GOTY thing is separate from steam awards…
Yeah, The Game Awards is just the Geoff Keighly Smile-Time Variety Hour
it’s the only place the Muppets are still respected and given a platform please put respect on Geoff Keighly’s Smile-Time Variety Hour

Easily the most enjoyable thing at the game awards, I fuckin love the muppets
At least there’s some consistency.
True
We get some trailers, we get a performance, awards are awarded
Hideo Kojima will probably show up and tease the Death Stranding movie
Standard fare
WORLD PREMIERE
I have come to enjoy the pageantry of it all to be honest.
Lots of groups do GOTY, among other common categories: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_in_video_games
This one is one failsons make work program
expedition 33 seems most likely to me, but silksong could take it.
It’s definitely a toss-up between these two for me. Stupid advertisement award shows aside, there were some incredible releases this year. Which is fucking wild considering the suits just keep laying everyone off who makes these possible.
I think Silksong being too difficult will cost it the title. Artistically I’m 100% on board but when even Hollow Knight completionists found it harsh it’s not going to be appreciated by enough people to make it to the top
Hey, I’ve actually, for once, played a GOTY nomination during the year it’s nominated for! (Silksong, of course it’s Silksong.) That has never happened to me before!
Tough year. Hard to call it between Hades 2, Silksong and Clair Obscur
Been playing Hades II recently, it’s good folks
Expedition 33 clears. Hades 2 was great but as a sequel it wasn’t as novel as expedition 33. Didn’t play the others but they’re all sequels so I think that also applies to the rest of them.
Silksong is a sequel, but is such a refinement and expansion on what made Hollow Knight so good that I think it wins out. I’m about 25% through Clair Obscur though, so maybe it picks up more later, but it has a good deal to go for me personally.
All I’ll say is that expedition 33 is a wild fucking ride
Silksong I didn’t play because I just don’t have the hand eye co-ordination for more intense games but I know it’s an amazing game just from the little I’ve seen
Definitely loving E33 so far! I just adore everything about Silksong, I know it rubbed some people the wrong way but it was perfect for me.
It’s a tossup between E33 and Silksong for me. Both 10/10 and I can’t rank em
Clair Obscur is pretty good, I’ve been playing it lately and it’s rather addictive. I do find the dodge/parry system to be frustrating at times, though. I wish the timing was just a tad more forgiving and legible. I love Elden Ring and I can dodge fairly consistently when playing it, but in Clair Obscur the dodge/parry windows are much harder to read.
I don’t know how to explain how I feel about it. The impression I get is that Elden Ring’s windows feel somehow more tactile and weighty, like you can “feel” much better when an enemy is about to attack, even during feints and long wind-ups.
Other than that, it’s a pretty enjoyable game, with AAA-level production values and an intriguing setting and story. That’s the only one from the list I have played so far.
haven’t played either game but i know what you mean, some devs just have extra sauce on their animations in a way that’s hard to articulate but very easy to “feel”
There’s an audio cue for when to parry or dodge for every attack, once you notice it and learn the timing window you can pretty much guarantee a perfect parry with your eyes closed, every time. After that it’s just not letting yourself get faked out and remembering the combo sequences of a couple of faster enemies.
I swear I’m the only person in the world that absolutely hated Clair Obscura (although that wasn’t entirely the game’s fault).
I personally really hated everything past Act 2
spoiler
the ending especially with the choices being ‘millions must die to save one family’ and ‘oh you didn’t want the sentient people to die?? well fuck you you chose wrong’ lol (I chose Verso first playthrough btw but felt really bad about it & thought ‘ok maybe Maelle’s will be better’ and no)
I enjoyed it but it’s very overhyped, not GOTY at all
Silksong for sure but KCD2 is also pretty good
It is kind of sad that I have time to play at most one or two of these games in a year (this year, only silksong). I still haven’t even played Elden Ring ffs.
The only game on this list that I’ve played is Hades 2 and it has thoroughly infected my brain in a way that only Hades 1 has. Idc if it wins or not, it is far and away the best game of the year for me
Is Hades 2 out of early release? I was holding out for the whole game
It came out officially a few weeks ago. It’s gotten several patches since then coming out with bug fixes and story fixes
My personal GotY will be Silksong, though Clair Obscur is also good from what I’ve played. Haven’t played the others on the list.
I’ve only played one of these, and it definitely wasn’t the sort of game with wide consumer appeal, so I doubt it’s going to win. Hopefully one day I’ll get to play Expedition 33.
